What is the difference between surface filtration and depth filtration?

In surface filtration, a filter with a uniform pore design, traps contaminants that are larger than the pore size of the media. In depth filtration, the contaminants are trapped at multiple levels within the filter because of the tapered pore structure of the depth filters.
